List of Scents

Description

So, I'm a very visual person...and when I'm working on a story it helps to to create bits and pieces of that story in a visual way. Sometimes I'll make floorplans, sometimes I'll create photo powerpoints - whatever I feel like can help me get into that character's state of mind.

Anyway, this is for a fanfic set in the Supernatural universe. The character in question is a shapeshifter. As I thought about her abilities, I began to wonder how on earth one shifter would be able to recognize another...and then I caught onto the idea of scent. If a shifter could smell another shifter then it wouldn't matter what they looked like, right? So I came up with a theory that shifters have developed a very unique sense of smell over the centuries - different types of humanoid species smell differently. In addition to that, each individual (if a shifter hangs around them long enough) develops a hint of their own personal scent, as well.

My character's father gave her a list of scents when she was very young. He was adamant that she memorize it and recognize those particular smells, so she knows every scent in his (blue) handwriting by heart. After his death, she continues adding to the list as she discovers new creatures and meets new people (the green writing).

There are several parts to this story that are still in developmental stages, so this list has the potential to adapt and change based on how the plot develops. But as things stand right now. I'm fairly happy with how it looks, so I wanted to go ahead and post it. :)

Also, if you're wondering about the paper, my idea was that the character has carried this around for a VERY long time, hence its slightly rumpled and beat-up appearance.

So yeah, I guess that's more than enough explanation, right?
